Executive Councillor, Sami Kanaan, welcomed the tricycle to Geneva as an important symbol for disarmament and peace. Under his leadership, the City of Geneva facilitated the search for an appropriate site to showcase this symbolic sculpture. The UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons was conceived in Geneva and with the sculpture’s installation in this very city, it will serve as a testament to the remarkable achievements of ICAN and the broader diplomatic community headquartered here.
“This sculpture reminds us that all of us – citizens, governments, local authorities, international organisations and NGOs – must work tirelessly to make sure that the use of nuclear weapons will remain a thing of the past. The City of Geneva will continue to support efforts, such as the work of ICAN, to prevent the use of nuclear weapons and invites all cities to join the global call on governments, including the government of Switzerland, to ratify and implement the TPNW.”
- Sami Kanaan, Executive Councillor of the City of Geneva
